Unloading and loading alongside the 200-metre quay, with a draught of up to 8–8.5 metres and a vessel beam of 10 to 30 metres. Larger seagoing ships are transhipped in the Waalhaven.

From vessel to truck, in one hand
Nieuwe Waterweg Silo unloads and loads small seagoing vessels, coasters, lighters and trucks with grab cranes, weighed and unweighed. We also take care of everything around it: freight, customs, inspection and onward transport.
Unloading and loading, from water to road
The terminal in Schiedam switches between sea shipping, inland shipping and road transport with grab cranes. Administration is handled directly at the quay, so vessels and trucks are quickly on their way again.
Lighters and push barges
Transhipment to and from lighters for transport by water. Temporary storage in push barges is possible.
Trucks
Trucks are loaded or unloaded in 15 minutes per truck, with direct transhipment from ship to truck.
Weighed and unweighed transhipment
Both are possible. The choice mainly determines the pace at the quay.
With weighing at the quay
If the cargo is weighed, capacity is 250 to 300 tonnes per hour, calculated on the basis of heavy grain. The administration is handled on site.

Without weighing, a higher pace
Without weighing, a crane averages 500 tonnes per hour. Suitable when the tonnage is established elsewhere and speed comes first.

Grab cranes
Fixed cranes on the quay, operating vessel, silo, pusher barge and truck directly.
Grabs
The matching grab is used for each cargo, so the consignment suffers as little as possible.
Pusher barges
For transport over water and for temporary storage of a consignment on the water.
Pusher tugs
For moving pusher barges between the terminal and the other port locations.

In addition to the terminal in Schiedam, Nieuwe Waterweg Silo also handles the transhipment of larger seagoing ships in the Waalhaven. Temporary storage in push barges is among the possibilities.
Larger vessel? Then the crane moves
Not every consignment fits alongside the quay in Schiedam. Larger seagoing vessels are transhipped in the Waalhaven, on the water.
That is possible because Nieuwe Waterweg Silo and stevedoring company A. Brussé en Zn. share the same owner and work closely together. Brussé has been active in Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Moerdijk since 1975 and operates 7 floating cranes and 3 pusher tugs. Where our terminal has fixed cranes on the quay, Brussé is mobile. Together that covers both the small seagoing vessel alongside and the larger vessel in the middle of the port.
